UTILITY MODES
Every Oakboard is shipped with the ability to enter two utility modes: Programming Mode and Bootloading Mode
- Programming Mode allows users to update transmitted MIDI values.
- Bootloading Mode facilitates installation of future firmware updates.
PROGRAMMING MODE
The MIDI notes sent from your Oakboard when it leaves our workshop are:
PLAY - MIDI NOTE 36 - C2 (CHANNEL 16)
TOP MIDDLE - MIDI NOTE 37 - C#2 (CHANNEL 16)
STOP - MIDI NOTE 38 - D1 (CHANNEL 16)
PREV - MIDI NOTE 39 - D#1 (CHANNEL 16)
TOP MIDDLE - MIDI NOTE 40 - E2 (CHANNEL 16)
NEXT - MIDI NOTE 41 - F1 (CHANNEL 16)
If you need to change these midi notes or channel, this can be done by visiting the online Oakboard programmer on our web site.
Please note that Programming Mode Access has changed a bit over time.
For Oakboards purchased after August 2021, access programming mode by connecting power to your Oakboard while holding down PLAY and PREV buttons at the same time. All LEDs will then flash two times to indicate Programming Mode access.
Earlier Oakboards used one of two methods to enter Programming Mode, depending on installed firmware.
Enter Programming Mode by connecting your Oakboard to your computer with the USB cable attached. With the power on, hold the STOP button until all LED lights turn off. All LEDs will then flash two times to indicate Programming Mode access.
If you're using an Oakboard purchased before April 2021, please update your firmware in order to use the Oaktone Online Programmer.
BOOTLOADING MODE
Supported updates to the Oaktone Oakboard's microprocessor's firmware are currently delivered as a small HEX file that requires a free-to-download bootloader called Teensy available here:

Future firmware updates will be available at the online Oakboard programmer. You will be notified by email for essential firmware updates but in the meantime, please contact Customer Service at info@oaktone.com if you have questions about your product and firmware needs.
